Poor Bookmap Performance in Vmware VM

Post by yqdutpft » Fri Jun 02, 2023 4:23 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to why I might be getting extremely poor performance with Bookmap running on a Windows 11 VM in VMware Workstation 17. The OS will respond perfectly fine until i start up BM at which point i get constant lockups and freezes. Host is a 12700k, 64gb RAM and NVME SSD. Guest has 2x2 processor allocation, 32GB ram (currently) and 64gb of Storage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Purely a guess here, but VMs tend to have pretty bad IO performance and we rely on memory mapped files a lot. Try playing around with IO settings (might have to use less safe configuration where writes are cached). Also 4 cores allocated could be not enough in some scenarios.

Are the lockups/freezes permanent or it just slows down and recovers a bit later?
